Deodorants are scent or fragrance products that aid in the transformation of body smells into a pleasant odour. Body odour is usually caused by bacterial development, which feeds on sweat and breaks it down. Deodorant includes antibacterial characteristics that inhibit the growth of bacteria and prevent the breakdown process. The fragrance droplet of deodorant aids in the prevention and transformation of body odour into a pleasant odour. There are various varieties of deodorants on the market, including aerosol spray, roll-ons, cream, and others. Deodorants have grown in popularity and demand in recent years as people's lifestyles, sense of freshness, personal grooming regimes, and personal cleanliness have improved. In the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic, the distribution channel got disrupted, resulting in a gap between demand and supply. On the other hand, consumers have shifted their interest toward the essential products that would help them survive the days of lockdown. Furthermore, deodorant has become an integral part of human grooming habits; therefore, with growing population the demand for deodorant also is also expected to increase.
The advent of the global pandemic, COVID-19, has affected the deodorant market negatively. Deodorant is a personal hygiene product that helps keep fresh and stops bacterial growth on the skin. During the ongoing pandemic, deodorant is not considered a necessary product; therefore, the demand for deodorant has decreased during these times.
The supply and distribution system had been disrupted as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak forcing governments to impose lockdown. There were restrictions on the import and export of deodorants because they were not a necessary product. Hypermarkets/supermarkets and convenience stores were shuttered, resulting in a demand-supply imbalance.
The production process for fresh batches of deodorant had become difficult for enterprises due to manpower shortages, disturbed raw material supply, and logistical issues.
