Due to the high birth rate in Asia Pacific, particularly in China and India, the baby food market is expected to grow rapidly

Baby food is any soft, easy-to-eat food that is specially made for children between four and six months and two years old. The food comes in many varieties and flavors that are purchased ready-made from producers. As per the World Health Organization (WHO), newborns should be breastfed for the first six months of life for optimal nutrition and health benefits. However, most newborns (six-month-old) are physiologically ready for new textures, foods, and feeding methods. As they grow, meeting the nutritional needs of newborns is important for their healthy development. Moreover, feeding them insufficiently or inappropriately cause major illnesses, as well as affect their mental and physical development.
Over the years, the market has witnessed significant growth, mainly due to the increasing population of working women and their concern for good nutrition for their babies. For instance, in July 2020, Heinz introduced a new lineup of baby food, HEINZ BY NATURE, made with natural ingredients. The line-up also includes recyclable glass jar formats for parents looking for more environmentally friendly packaging. Moreover, in March 2020, Nestle launched a single-material pouch designed for the future of recycling. The increasing awareness and knowledge over the importance and role of nutrition in an infant's growth are significantly helping the global market.
Factors such as stringent government regulations regarding the quality of baby food and increasing awareness among consumers about the harmful effects of chemicals on infant development are expected to boost the market growth. Six out of ten Americans believe that organic baby food is better for their baby’s health, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). For instance, in February 2020, Happy Family Organics launched a new product line, Regenerative and Organic Baby Food, for ages 6+ months. Moreover, the demand for organic baby food is also rising due to the increasing awareness of the need for good health and wellbeing.
In terms of geography, the baby food market is divided into six regions, such as North America, South America, Europe, Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. Asia Pacific is expected to witness robust growth in the market due to the high birth rate, especially in countries such as China and India. According to Statista, around 14.65 million babies were born in China in 2019. In 2019, the birth rate of India was 17.806 births per 1000 people. Thus, key players are looking for opportunities to expand their business in the Asia Pacific.
